The Wild Sanctuary Overnight Retreat Schedule Is Here!

There is something sacred about creating space to listen.mOver the past several months, we have been dreaming, praying, and paying attention to what God might be inviting us into through this year's Wild Sanctuary Overnight Retreat. Recently, we had the gift of gathering at St. Mary's in Sewanee—the beautiful place where we will welcome our retreat guests this October—to spend time in the space, walk the grounds, listen to the quiet, and begin shaping the rhythm of our weekend together.

The Gift of Saying Yes: Receiving God's Invitation Before It Passes By

Perhaps as you've been reading, something within you has stirred—maybe you've found yourself imagining what it would be like to spend a weekend at the top of a mountain outlook, surrounded by beauty, with space to breathe deeply and simply be.

And yet, even when our hearts recognize what they long for, saying yes can feel surprisingly difficult. There is always another responsibility to tend, another email to answer, another commitment that feels more pressing. We tell ourselves that next season will be less busy, that there will be another opportunity, that we'll make time for rest after everything else has been taken care of. What Does a Weekend at Wild Sanctuary Feel Like?

We recently reflected on Jesus' invitation to "come away...and get some rest." It is a beautiful invitation, but perhaps it also raises a practical question: What does it actually feel like to step away?

For many of us, arriving at retreat isn't as simple as pulling into a parking lot or unpacking a weekend bag. We arrive carrying full calendars, unfinished to-do lists, conversations that linger in our minds, and responsibilities waiting for us at home. We bring the joys and sorrows of everyday life, and often we arrive wondering if we'll really be able to settle into the rhythms laid out for us without being pulled back into the world we’ve intentionally set aside for the weekend.

Why Jesus Invites Us to Come Away

There are seasons when life asks so much of us that we hardly notice how weary we've become. We move from one responsibility to the next, caring for those entrusted to us, tending our work, our homes, our ministries, and our relationships. Even our quiet moments can become filled with notifications, errands, and the subtle pressure to keep moving. Before long, we find ourselves longing for something we can't quite name—a little more space to breathe, a little more silence, a little more time to remember who we are in the presence of God.

Perhaps you've felt that longing, too. It often arrives as a quiet ache beneath the surface of our days. We may not have the words for it, but our souls recognize the invitation to slow down long before our minds are willing to listen.
