The 4 Elements Guided Meditation
At Wild Sanctuary Retreats, we find ourselves returning to two of our core values that shape everything we offer: Connection and Rhythmic Living…
Connection - We create spaces that foster connection— with God, with ourselves, with others, and with the earth beneath our feet. Whether through shared silence or shared laughter, sacred solitude or soulful conversation, we believe connection is what softens us back into loving presence.
Rhythmic Living - We ground our retreats in the sacred rhythms of nature and the church calendar, trusting that the seasons of creation and the seasons of faith have wisdom to offer us. We move with the Spirit— not against time.
Both Earth Day in April, and the liturgical Season of Creation in September, gently remind us that these values are not abstract ideals, but invitations into a very real relationship with the living world around us. The earth is not separate from our spiritual life—it is a sacred participant in it. The same God we encounter in prayer meets us in the rustling trees, the warming sun, the steady ground beneath our feet.
To live in connection with the earth is to remember that we belong to creation, not above it. And to live rhythmically is to honor the natural cycles of rest and renewal, death and resurrection, that the earth and Jesus model so faithfully for us. Join us in celebration of this sacred relationship by engaging in a 4 Elements Guided Meditation.
4 Elements Guided Meditation
🧘♀️ Begin by settling your body into stillness.
If possible, outside in the grass, on or off your mat. Lying prone on your front side body is a beautiful way to get heart or heart with the Earth. If not accessible, lying on your back or sitting are great ways to connect with the Earth as well. Any way that you feel comfortable. Allow yourself to be fully supported by the ground beneath you. Let your weight drop. Let your breath soften.
Become aware of God’s creative loving presence with you—
within you, around you, holding you and all of creation in love.
🌏 Earth
Feel yourself grounded on the earth—
held, supported, and sustained by God’s creation.
“You are dust, and to dust you shall return,”
and yet—dust breathed into by God becomes life.
With each inhale, receive the steady strength of the earth as a gift from God.
With each exhale, offer something back—
a breath of compassion…
a breath of gratitude.
Rest in the truth that you are held—
by the earth, and by the One who created it.
💨 Air
Now, bring your awareness to your breath.
Begin a gentle three-part breath—
inhaling belly, ribs, chest…
exhaling chest, ribs, belly.
Slow and steady.
Scripture tells us that God breathed the breath of life into us.
And even now, each breath is sustained by that same Spirit.
You are breathing with God—
Spirit moving in and through you.
You are also breathing with the Earth that God so lovingly created for us—
Your inhalation is the Earth’s exhalation. The Earths’s exhalation is your inhalation.
💧 Water
Now, imagine water…
perhaps your favorite body of water—
a quiet lake, the ocean’s edge, a flowing stream
or a soft, steady rain.
Let this water become a sign of God’s grace—
Feel it gently washing over you— cleansing, renewing, restoring all of Creation.
🔥 Fire
Now, bring your awareness to your heart.
Imagine a small flame at its center—
the Light of Christ within you.
With each breath, gently tend this flame—
allowing it to grow warmer, brighter, steadier, until it encompasses the whole Earth.
This is the Light of Christ in you—
guiding, comforting, and transforming all of Creation.
Rest here for a few moments—
held by God through the earth,
filled with Holy Spirit breath,
washed in Divine grace,
and lit by the Light of Christ within.
When you are ready, slowly deepen your breath,
gently returning—carrying this awareness into the rest of your day.
Come back to this meditation anytime you’d like to remember your connectedness to the world around you.
