Mothering Day Guided Meditation

At Wild Sanctuary Retreats, we prefer to say Happy Mother’ing’ Day!

On this day, we honor not only mothers, but the sacred act of mothering itself — the nurturing, comforting, guiding, protecting, encouraging, praying-for, tending-love that so many women embody in countless ways.

Some mother children physically; others mother through friendship, teaching, caregiving, mentoring, hospitality, emotional support, and spiritual companionship. We believe this nurturing love reflects the very heart of God. Throughout scripture, God is not only described with fatherly imagery, but also as a mother who comforts, gathers, nourishes, and carries her children close.

On this Mothering Day, we invite you to pause and rest in that Divine feminine love with us through a gentle guided meditation honoring the sacred gift of mothering in all its forms. and those special women who have mothered us so well.

Mothering Day Guided Meditation

🧘‍♀️Begin seated or take any shape of comfort in a quiet space.

Maybe light a candle as a reminder of God’s Loving Presence with you.  Take a few slow, deep breaths in. Focus on longer, lingering exhales to help you relax, ground and center. Now bring your awareness to your heart space.

📖 Think of the Motherly attributes of God

God as a Mother Eagle (Deuteronomy 32:11-12); God as Momma Bear (Hosea 13:8); God as a Mother Hen (Matthew 23:37; Luke 13:34); God as Nursing Momma (Isaiah 49:15)....If it is appropriate, visualize God as Mother.  The God who formed you, knows you fully, and loves you completely; is also the God who protects, supports & encourages you; longs & looks for you; is full of compassion towards you; nurtures & comforts you.  Basically, is your number one fan!

🌷Now think of someone who has mothered you well

Your mother, a grandmother, mentor, friend, teacher, spiritual companion, or another nurturing presence God has placed in your life. Someone who has cared for you, encouraged you, prayed for you, or reflected Christ’s love to you.  Hold them in your heart space.

🫶🏼 Notice the gift of love you have received through this person.

Allow that love to move gently through your body — filling your heart, your mind, your spirit. And beneath this human love, notice the steady and everlasting love of Christ flowing through it all.

🙏 Now silently offer a prayer of blessing for this person.

Thank God for the ways she has shared love, wisdom, comfort, and care.
Ask that she may be filled with peace, joy, strength, and the deep knowledge that she too is cherished by God.

💞 Notice the sacred circle of love

Love received from God, shared through others, and offered back again.

💫 Now extend this prayer outward.

Offer Christ’s love to all who mother and children everywhere…
To those celebrating…
To those grieving…
To those longing…
To those carrying heavy burdens…
May all people know the comfort and compassion of God’s presence.

❤️ Remember that you were created from love, for love.

From the very beginning of your life, God has held you close.  If it is appropriate, visualize being held close to God’s Momma heart. No matter your age, your story, or your circumstances, you are never beyond the need for nurturing love — and never beyond God’s ability to provide it.

Take a few final deep breaths in silence.  Relishing what needs to be relished.  Releasing what needs to be released.

Gently return—carrying this awareness into the rest of your day.
